Commuting students

Roehampton aims to be an inclusive and welcoming community for all students, whether you're living on-campus, somewhere nearby or further afield. We are dedicated to continuously improving the student experience, whether that means providing a secure place to lock up your bike or round the clock access to academic advice.

We are a short walk from Barnes station, and there are a number of buses serving Roehampton, including our own free service which runs between Barnes Wetland Centre and Wimbledon station, stopping outside our campus in between. There is also free car parking for students on our campus, and plenty of bike storage.

All four of our colleges have spaces specially designed for commuting students to relax, study and eat. These include College Kitchens, which have lockers and comfortable seating, along with fridges and microwaves to store and reheat food, and Pocket Lounges, areas with soft furnishings and powerpoints for you to charge your laptop or phone. There are are also Touchdown Spaces, with powerpoints for laptops, and chairs and tables.

Being a postgraduate student at a campus university in the heart of south-west London gives you the best of both worlds. We are lucky enough to have a 54-acre parkland campus to call home, and are only 30 minutes from central London.

There are plenty of options to get involved on campus through playing sport, music, volunteering, or joining one of our student societies. There is also a huge range of research events and guest lectures which students are encouraged to attend.

We also have catering outlets, across campus, and each College has social spaces and commuter kitchens where you can meet up with your friends and relax.

Our campus is close to Putney, Richmond and Wimbledon, which each have wide a range of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. With central London so close, you can easily access the wealth of culture, entertainment and dining options the capital has to offer.

Colleges

Our University is comprised of four historic Colleges: Digby Stuart, Froebel, Southlands and Whitelands, which were all formed in the 19th century. When you join Roehampton as a student, you will become a member of one of them.

Our Colleges help us provide the friendly, welcoming community that makes Roehampton unique in London. They provide social events, welfare support and opportunities to compete in sport and other activities – including the annual Roehampton College Cup.

Sports and Active Communities

We offer a wide range of sport, esports and physical activity opportunities for all students. Competitive sport for more experienced students to social activities for those wanting to try something new, we have something to meet the needs of all our students.

Roehampton Students' Union (RSU) offers a variety of opportunities for students, from student societies, volunteering, through to the College Cup and Summer Ball. There are over 55 societies at Roehampton and the RSU also run over 200 events every year for students, such as club nights, Theatre Tuesdays, de-stress events (puppy days), Summer Ball, formal dinners and more.

There is also the opportunity to get involved with the RSU’s own environmental social enterprise, Growhampton. Student volunteers can grow vegetables on campus allotments, help run the Hive Café, look after the campus chickens or assist with Market Day on Thursdays.

Social Spaces

Social spaces

We have a range of bars, social spaces and catering outlets to suit all tastes. Each of our four colleges has a few venues, so no matter where on campus you are, there is somewhere to grab a coffee and catch up with your friends.

Our venues host events including live music, weekly markets and club nights, here is a brief overview of some of the key places:

The Union, located on Froebel is the main social hub, with a bar, various food options and a regular schedule of events, including the weekly quiz night.

The Hive Café is located in Digby Square, and is a popular spot for coffee. It also hosts a weekly market for fresh produce grown on campus, as well as a regular thrift shop.

The Sett, in Whitelands, has a pool table, a range of seating, and a kitchen space so you can heat up your food. The canteen is located directly below.

The Quad Café is based in Southlands, and provides a range of food options. There is also a large communal space with plenty of tables and chairs for group work, or grabbing a bite to eat.

We also have a kitchen on each college so you can store and heat up food, as well as areas with soft furnishings and powerpoints for you to charge your laptop or phone.
